Coastal Erosion
Risk of Coastal Erosion in Thailand
Thailand is a country with a long coastline that spans over 2,800 kilometers and is located in a region that is prone to natural disasters such as typhoons, monsoons, and earthquakes. As such, coastal erosion is a major risk for the country, especially in areas where there is high population density and significant economic activity.

One of the primary factors contributing to coastal erosion in Thailand is the high rate of urbanization along the coast. Large-scale development projects such as ports, tourism facilities, and residential buildings can alter the natural coastal processes that contribute to the formation and maintenance of beaches, dunes, and other coastal landforms. In addition, the construction of dams and other water management structures in rivers and estuaries can disrupt the natural sediment transport processes, leading to erosion and degradation of coastal ecosystems.

Another factor that contributes to coastal erosion in Thailand is climate change, which is causing sea levels to rise and increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as storms and floods. This can result in more rapid and severe erosion of coastlines, particularly in areas with low-lying land, limited natural barriers, and high levels of erosion susceptibility.

Hello Davonn, I really like how simple and clean this blog looks! I like how you included some example on the coastal problems in Thailand. Great post!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting research. What are their mitigation efforts for this hazard?
